Historic Postcards from the Specht Collection

Postcards have been around since the late 1800s, offering a quick and more inexpensive way to send a note or message to a family member or friend. The early 1900s postcard boom was more than likely due to advancements in photography and printing. Postcards were soon made to capture everyday life such as buildings, landscapes, landmarks, family portraits, artwork, holiday cards, and popular culture. As technology advanced with telephones, and later the internet, postcards are used less today as a form of communication. However, they continue to be a popular keepsake for travelers and collectors.

This exhibition will highlight several postcards from the Alice Specht Postcard Collection, which includes over 150 postcards, many of which depict scenes from Abilene and the surrounding areas.
