Looking to get more involved with The Grace as a volunteer? We have several opportunities available with flexible scheduling options! Volunteering is a rewarding experience and opportunity to make new friends and help make a difference in the community and in the lives of the visitors and staff of The Grace Museum. Download our Volunteer Application, and return to us by mail or e-mail your completed application to Sarah Tenison, Director of Guest Relations and Volunteers.

The Grace Museum seeks volunteers with great people skills to help out with a variety of events that occur monthly on ArtWalk nights. ArtWalk is a community event led by the Center for Contemporary Arts that occurs on the second Tuesday of each month. Various Downtown groups host various activities for the community. Activities volunteers can help with include: gallery attendant, make ‘n take, visitor services, among others.

The Grace Museum would like volunteers to assist with occasional clerical duties such as preparing copies, or bulk mailings. Tasks include labeling collateral, sorting by zip code, and other.

The love of art and the desire to share art with others is the only prerequisite to becoming a gallery teacher.  Gallery teachers will have special training sessions once a month that will include talks, training and teaching by the Director of Education and the Chief Curator to prepare you to give tours to groups that range in age from preschool to adults.

If you enjoy our educational programs, you will definitely enjoy being behind the scenes in the planning! Education volunteers help with hanging art for our annual Youth Art Month student art exhibition, assist with art activities during the Children’s Art and Literacy Festival, and much more!

Gallery Attendants assist in protecting the art and artifacts and making visitors to our galleries feel comfortable and welcome. They are important not only to the safety of the art but help provide confidence in artists and lenders that their works will be safe at The Grace Museum which affords the museum the ability to bring in higher quality exhibitions.

The Grace Museum seeks volunteers with great people skills to help out with a variety of tasks related to The Grace Coffee Shop…and more! This is the Museum store and serves as a location for our guests to learn more about the history of the Museum. Retail experience is a plus!

The Grace Museum hosts three opening receptions for its exhibitions each year. During these receptions, volunteers assist with greeting guests, serving as gallery attendants, welcoming guests to the reception area, and much more. Another favorite is Fall Benefit where volunteers assist with table arrangements, decor placement, and other tasks.

Greet and assist visitors with a high level of customer service, providing a welcoming and friendly environment for the visitors to enjoy their experience. Helping at the Visitors Services desk also provides learning opportunities on point-of-sale (POS) systems and answering the Museum’s main phone line.

Los Aficionados was formed by a dedicated group of supporters of the Abilene Fine Arts Museum, the Museums of Abilene and now The Grace Museum. The purpose of Los Aficionados is to promote the growth of the general membership and to support, organize and sponsor educational, charitable and social activities to benefit The Grace Museum. The goal is to provide information of interest to the members and to foster the ideals of volunteerism and fellowship.

Familiar names in the community today shared their expertise and guidance in the creation of “Los Aficionados” – The Fans.  Evelyn Niblo provided the name as well as major impetus in the formation of L.A. along with Frances Gordon, Jean DeFord, Jane Henson, Linda Scarborough and a stellar group of Abilenians who met at the Museum in 1969 to spearhead the organization, make lists of possible members and establish a set of bylaws.Prior to 1960, The Abilene Chamber of Commerce held an annual event entitled “Abilene Fine Arts Festival” which was given to the new Los Aficionados organization as a fundraiser.  The group took the reins and ran with it.  At the West Texas Fair for a number of years, L.A. successfully held “The Gallery Fair” charging admission and holding competitions of artwork exhibited.

Over the years many fundraising “events” have taken place from White Elephant Sales to Dinner Dances, the Buffalo Gap Arts Festival and the Valentine Vendor Fair!  L.A. Members are always in the forefront of the fabulous volunteers who make every facet of The Grace shine.  From artist and exhibition receptions to leadership in developing major benefit events, to assisting with day-to-day museum operations, L.A. members donate valuable time, talents, vitality, ideas and yes, the funds that make The Grace possible.Meetings for L.A. are held monthly and occur during the months of September to May. If you are interested in becoming a member of Los Aficionados, please call (325) 673-4587. Or, e-mail info@thegracemuseum.org to find out more information on membership.
