Colorful landscape painting exhibit opens at The Grace

Abilene, TX (July 11, 2008) - A colorful exhibit of unique landscape paintings has arrived at The Grace Museum for a summer exhibit.

Into The Woods features the work of Cuban-born artist Lilian Garcia-Roig. As a plein-air (on-site) landscape painter, Garcia-Roig calls her artistic mission "an effort to capture the character of seemingly ordinary, dense landscape in a way that reflects a passionate engagement with the scene and with the painting process."

Her work is represented in the collections of museums across the southwest, Texas, and the southeast, and she has exhibited in over 150 shows in the US, Mexico, and Cuba. She is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards including a 2006 Joan Mitchell Award for excellence in the arts and is currently Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Art at Florida State University.

Into The Woods: Paintings by Lilian Garcia-Roig is on exhibit in The Grace's second floor Gallery C through August 21. The exhibit is generously sponsored by Evelyn and Sydney Niblo.

The Grace Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday. Admission is free Thursday evening after 5 p.m.
